This post serves to put a final rule on the proper usage in using the number grouping of a ‘Couple’, ‘Few’, ‘Several’, and a ‘Dozen’.

Couple

A ‘Couple’ always means two (2). No more and no less, but two precisely.

Few

A ‘Few’ always means three. No more and no less, but three (3) precisely.

Several

Several means between four (4) and eleven (11). It can be any number between this range, the term ‘several’ is used as the number because it is a digit in the middle.

Dozen

A dozen is always twelve. No more and no less, but twelve (12) precisely.

Above this, you start grouping even larger number sets, e.g. over a dozen, or a couple dozen, or a few dozen, or several dozen…

This post is curated to be straight to the point. If you feel you must use broad number grouping, please use the above rules moving forward.
